Krause, Coady Score 11 Seconds Apart in Late Stages as Women's Lacrosse Nips Binghamton, 10-9

Vestal, N.Y.- UMBC seniors Alicia Krause (Ellicott City,Md./Mount Hebron) and Emily Coady (Westminster,Md./Westminster) scored goals 11 seconds apart late in the second half as the visiting Retrievers edged upset-minded Binghamton, 10-9, in an America East Conference contest at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

UMBC improved to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in America East, whileBinghamton fell to 3-8, 0-4.

UMBC led, 7-5 at halftime and sophomore midfielder Kristen Bilney (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) extended the margin to three goals with an unassisted tally just 1:20 into the second half. But Binghamton scored four consecutive goals and BU's Kristin Stone gave the hosts a 9-8 advantage with 9:02 remaining in regulation.

Coady set up Krause and the Retriever midfielder knotted the game at 9-9 with 5:48 remaining. On the ensuing draw, UMBC freshman attacker Abby Wilson (Bel Air,Md./Fallston) came up with the loose ball and fed Coady, who deposited the game-winning goal behind Bearcat netminder Kara Pafumi.

Krause caused a turnover with 2:09 remaining and the Retrievers were able to run out the clock to secure their ninth victory in nine meetings vs. Binghamton.

Krause and Coady led a balanced UMBC attack with two goals and one assist each. Sophomore midfielder Taeler Errington (Valley Lee, Md./Leonardtown) added two goals and classmate Shannon Harkey (Purcellville, Va.) contributed a goal and a helper.

UMBC outshot Binghamton, 33-22, but only had three free position attempts, and converted once. The Bearcats failed on 7-of-10 free position efforts. Pafumi had seven stops forBinghamton.

Retriever freshman netminder Anna Barnett (Midland, Texas) got credit for the victory, making two saves, while allowing four goals in the final 30 minutes of action.

The Retrievers won a one-goal decision over the Bearcats for the second consecutive season.

UMBC returns home to entertain America East foe Vermont next Saturday, April 14.
