Box Score

Baltimore, Md.- Senior midfielder Alicia Krause (Ellicott City,Md./Mount Hebron) led all scorers with four goals and scored the game-winning goal with 7:30 remaining as visiting UMBC (8-8) knocked off 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 7-6, at Homewood Field in their regular season finale.

It was UMBC's second victory over a ranked opponent in 2012, as the Retrievers also defeated then-No. 13 Albany, 8-5, on March 24.

The Retrievers won for the fourth time in five outings, while Johns Hopkins fell for the sixth consecutive time and slipped to 7-8 overall.

Johns Hopkins got out to a 2-0 lead, but UMBC tied the game at 2-all and the game stayed that way until halftime. The Blue Jays pushed ahead one goat at a time, but the Retrievers responded with the tying goal on each occasion.

JHU took its final lead with 16:36 remaining on a goal by Colleen McCaffrey. Hopkinsreceived a yellow card with 12:05 remaining after Krause was fouled after snaring a ground ball. With just four seconds remaining on the man-up situation, Krause drew a foul and converted on a free position shot with 10:10 remaining.

After a Hopkins turnover, sophomore midfielder Shannon Harkey (Purcellville, Va.) fed Krause, who finished for her 30th goal of the season to give UMBC its first lead of the night.

The Retrievers got possession with 5:15 remaining and managed to hold the ball until 33 seconds remained. But Hopkins drew  a foul, but Taylor D'Amore's free position attempt went wide of the mark with eight seconds left as did Candace Rossi's shot with one second remaining.

No other Retriever scored multiple points in the game, but junior midfielder Lindsday Cox (High Bridge, N.J.) did score her 40th goal of the season.

UMBC outshot JHU, 22-18, and had 14 ground balls to the Blue Jays' 8. Retriever freshman goalkeeper Anna Barnett (Midland, Texas) improved her mark to 5-2 on the season with a four-save performance.

McCaffrey led Johns Hopkins with three goals.

Krause hit on all three of her free position attempts.

The Retrievers have the weekend off and await the results of other league games to determine if they will face host and top-seeded Boston University or No. 2 Stony Brook in the America East semifinals on May 3.
