BALTIMORE – After standout
performances last weekend at Bucknell and Tennessee, the UMBC track
and field squads once again split up and travel to their respective
meets this weekend. A group of distance runners will travel to
the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J. while the remainder
of the track and field squad will stay local to attend the Morgan
State Legacy Meet.
Last week in Pennsylvania, senior Keri
Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) shattered her
career-best time by almost five and a half seconds in the 3000m
steeplechase last Saturday at the Bison Outdoor Classic, breaking
the school record. Wilson's time of 11:29.56 broke the previous
record of 11:33.15 that was set in 2001.
Sophomore Cody
Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) will look to
continue her strong campaign after improving her time in the 800m
run (2:14.28), which still ranks her fourth in school history.
In Tennessee, more personal records were broken as new athletes
gave strong performances to land on the school's all-time top-ten
list.
Freshmen Paulette
Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara) has been a
constant in the hurdles and placed fifth in the 400m event with a
personal-best time of 1:02.50, which ranks second on the all-time
UMBC list.
On the field, senior Chrissy
Robinson (Lusby, Md./Patuent) furthered her mark in the
discus with a toss of 41.35m (135'8").
For the men, Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin)
leaped third in the record book in the hammer throw (50.04m –
164'2").
Both meets this weekend will begin on Friday and run through the
day and finishing on Saturday evening.
