Krause, Cox Net Four; Wilson Adds Three as Women's Lacrosse Defeats Delaware, 15-6

Box Score

Newark, Del.- Senior midfielder Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) scored four goals and added a pair of assists to lead the visiting UMBC Retrievers (2-3) to a convincing 15-6 victory over Delaware (2-4) at Delaware Stadium.

Junior midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J.) added four goals and one assist and freshman attacker Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) contributed three scores and helper as the Retrievers recorded a season-high in goals.

UMBC never trailed as they got on the board when sophomore Shannon Harkey (Purcellville,Va.) fed Cox and the Retrievers' leading scorer tallied her 10th goal of the season just 43 seconds into the game.

Delaware would tie the game at 1-1, but Krause struck twice in a 57-second span, giving UMBC a 3-1 advantage and the lead for good with 13:55 to play in the first half.

Cox ended the half with a goal as only two seconds remained in the half and the Retrievers took a 6-3 lead into the break.

The Fightin' Blue Hens shaved the deficit to 7-5, causing a UMBC time-out 5:30 into the second half. The Retrievers proceeded to go on a 5-0 run and gained comfortable 12-5 margin with 10:44 to play. Freshman Michelle Platz (Cincinnati, Ohio) started the surge by scoring her first collegiate goal just 71 seconds after the time-out.

Wilson scored two of UMBC's next four goals and completed her first career hat trick, capping the game's scoring with an unassisted tally with 53 seconds to play.

UMBC outshot Delaware, 28-19, and only committed eight turnovers in the game. Junior goalkeeper Kendall Mason (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) got credit for the win, making one save and allowing three first half goals, while freshman Anna Barnett (Midland, Texas/Midland) stopped five UD shots and allowed three scores in the final 30 minutes.

Cox scored four goals on only five shots and leads UMBC with 13 goals through five games.

The Retrievers have defeated Delaware four consecutive times and now only trail the all-time series, 6-5.

UMBC takes on local rival Loyola on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.
