Two UMBC Track and Field Records Highlight Day One of America East Championships

DURHAM, N.H.-- The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first day of the America East Outdoor Championships Saturday in Durham, N.H. with two school records highlighting the action. The men sit in sixth place with 19 points, while the women are in eighth with eight points.

On the men's side, senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) is the top qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.57. Fellow senior Antonio Thomas (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) qualified second for the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.60.

Three Retrievers will compete in the 100-meter dash finals Sunday, including Thomas, Adrian Arthur (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Justin Acker (Bowie, Md./Bowie/Salisbury). Sophomore Joshua Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore) qualified for the 400-meter finals with a time of 48.58.

After the first day of the decathlon, junior Keith Onto (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro/St. Francis (PA)) leads the competition with 3,782 points. Senior Michael Buccheri (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan/Monmouth) stands seventh with 3,286 points.

On the women's side, senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) broke the UMBC record in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 24.41. Sophomore Laura Walker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) finished seventh in the pole vault in a school record mark of 3.15m (10'4")

Sophomore Kiki Malomo-Paris (Northern Ireland/Glenlola Collegiate School) earned bronze in the long jump with a leap of 5.60m

Sophomores Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) and Fallon Rovel-Jones (Owings Mills, Md./New Town) are seeded third and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Foreman qualified for the 100-meter dash final in a time of 12.04, while freshman Ashley Ajayi (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) will compete in the 400-meter hurdles final with a time of 1:03.68.

After the first day of the heptathlon, freshman Chowan Brightful (New Market, Md./Linganore) stands second 2,858 points.

The championships conclude Sunday.
