BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse team (2-3) looks to bounce back after three straight losses to nationally ranked opponents when it takes on Fresno State (0-2) Friday evening at 7 p.m. at UMBC Stadium. The game can be seen live at UMBCRetrievers.tv.
Last Time Out: UMBC fell at No. 17 Towson, 15-7, on Wednesday. Junior midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) led the Retrievers with a career-high four goals, while sophomore attack Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Mount Hebron/Duquesne) tallied twice and junior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) added a goal and an assist. Senior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) recorded nine saves in the loss.
On the Bulldogs: Fresno State is coming off a pair of season-opening losses to Villanova and Central Connecticut State, including an 11-9 loss to the Blue Devils on Wednesday. Attack Amanda Cross scored twice in both games to lead the Bulldogs. Goalie Katie Wilbur recorded 11 saves against Central Connecticut.
Inside the Series: Friday night marks the first-ever meeting between UMBC and Fresno State.
Dawg Bites: Junior midfielder Amanda Pappas (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) leads the Retrievers with 14 goals and 15 points, while Braerman has 14 points on eight goals and a team-high six assists… Quick has posted a 9.80 GAA and a .462 save percentage with 42 saves… She has not recorded less than eight saves in any of the first five contests… Quick also leads UMBC with 10 ground balls, while senior midfielder Amanda Gable (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) has won a team-high 15 draw controls… Sophomore attack Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) saw her eight-game scoring streak come to an end against Towson on Wednesday… Ten different players have found the back of the net for UMBC so far this season, and 11 have tallied at least one point… Braerman and freshman midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) were named America East Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the first week of the season, while Pappas and freshman midfielder Kerianne Allen (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron earned the same honors a week later.
