COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2010 outdoor seasons Saturday in College Park, Md. for the Maryland Invitational. Two Retrievers, senior Victor Gilreath(Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) and sophomore Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) brought home golds.
Colbert finished first in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.02, while fellow sophomore Fallon Rovel-Jones (Owings Mills, Md./New Town) earned bronze in 15.60.
The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Ashley Ajayi (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton), senior Tawana Wilson (Yorktown, Va./Tabb), Colbert and senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) took home silver in a time of 48.20. Foreman earned bronze in the 100-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 12.30.
On the jumps junior Jasmine Batchelor (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and freshman Chowan Brightful (New Market, Md./Linganore) tied for third in the high jump with leaps of 1.52m (4'11.75"), while sophomore Kiki Malomo-Paris (Northern Ireland/Glenlola Collegiate School) placed third in the long jump, hitting a mark of 5.64m (18'6").
On the men's side, Gilreath won the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.42m (47'.75"), while he earned silver in the high jump at 1.93m (6'4"). Fellow senior Brian Pendleton (Aberdeen, Md./Harford Tech) finished second in both the triple jump and the long jump, hitting marks of 14.08m (46'2.5") and 6.70m (21'11.75"), respectively.
Sophomore Roy Jones (New Market, Md./Linganore) finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:58.39.
The Retrievers return to action next Saturday when they take part in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
