NEW YORK-- Sophomores Aaron Brooks (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dematha) and Kiki Malomo-Paris (Northern Ireland/Glenlola Collegiate School) set school records and fellow sophomore Laura Walker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) tied a school mark as the UMBC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Rider/Lafayette Winter Games at the Armory in New York City.
Brooks set the men's shot put record with a throw of 15.43m, while Malomo-Paris set the women's long jump mark with a leap of 5.65m. Walker tied her school record in the women's pole vault of 3.15m. Both Malomo-Paris and Walker earned third in their respective events.
On the women's side, senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) earned gold in the 60-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 7.67, while taking silver in the 200-meter dash in 25.37. Sophomore Imani Colbert(Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) won the 60-meter hurdles in an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.76. Freshman Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) continued her impressive opening campaign, winning the shot put with a throw of 13.98m.
Sophomore Ashly McClure (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor) took second in the 500-meter dash in 1:17.97, while senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) crossed the line second in the 800-meter dash in a time of 2:15.50. Freshman Ashley Ajayi (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) earned bronze in the 400-meter dash in 58.93.
On the men's side, senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) earned silver in the 60-meter hurdles in an IC4A-qualifying time of 8.24, while fellow senior Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough) finished fourth in 8.33.
The Retrievers return to action next weekend for the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships. The first day of action in Boston starts Friday.
