FAIRFAX, Va./STATE COLLEGE, Pa.-- The UMBC men's and women's track and field teams competed at two separate meets over the weekend, with a select few going to the Penn State Invite, while the majority of the team was at the George Mason Invitational.
At George Mason, sophomore Laura Walker (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) broke the UMBC record in the pole vault, hitting a mark of 3.15m (10'4"). Freshman Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) placed first in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.86m and earned the silver in the weight throw with a mark of 14.51m. Junior Chrissy Robinson (), competing in her first meet of the season, earned gold in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.57m.
Senior Camal Pugh (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.28, while sophomore Imani Colbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./C.H. Flowers) placed second on the women's side in 8.80.
Senior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) earned bronze in the 60-meter dash in 7.78, while sophomore Joshua Hewitson (New Market, Md./Linganore) placed second in the 400-meter dash in 50.30.
At Penn State, senior Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) finished second in the 1-mile run in a time of 4:58.97, while fellow senior Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) finished 10th in the men's 1-mile run in 4:17.48.
Senior Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech/Maryland) competed in the triple jump (14.45m) and high jump (1.94m) and finished 10th and 16th, respectively.
The Retrievers return to action next weekend when they take part in the Armory Invitational in New York.
