Women's Lacrosse Downs Le Moyne, 17-7, on Senior Day

Box Score

BALTIMORE - Sophomore midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) scored a career-high five points to lead the UMBC women's lacrosse team (9-7) past non-conference foe Le Moyne (5-10) Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium in the Retrievers' home finale. It was UMBC's third straight victory and its fourth in the past five games.

Before the game, the Retrievers honored seniors Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Ashley Lancer (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Susie Sweeney (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Abbey Swift (Baltimore, Md./Towson), who were playing in their last game at UMBC Stadium.

Dorr and sophomore midfielder Amanda Pappas (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) gave UMBC an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals in the first three minutes.

After Le Moyne midfielder Rebekah Elmer put the Dolphins on the board for the first time at the 20:10 mark, the Retrievers rattled off five straight goals and seven of nine to take a 9-2 lead at halftime. Pappas scored twice more during the 5-0 run for a natural hat trick.

The Dolphins scored five of the first eight goals of the second half to cut their deficit to 12-7, but an unassisted tally by UMBC freshman midfielder Bria Phillips (Davidsonville, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) sparked another 5-0 Retriever spurt to end the game and give the hosts the 17-7 victory.

Stodter led all scorers with five points on three goals and two assists, while freshman attack Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) tallied four points on two goals and two helpers. Swift also recorded four points on a goal and three assists.

Le Moyne attack Michelle Phillips led the Dolphins with three points on two goals and an assist.

Sweeney played the first half in goal and made four saves, while junior keeper Kate Quick stopped nine shots in the second half. Le Moyne goalie Kelly Fucillo recorded 11 saves.

The Retrievers outshot the Dolphins, 40-23, including 21-7 in the first half, and held a 19-5 advantage on ground balls.

The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, April 25, when they travel to league-leading Boston University to take on the nationally ranked Terriers in the regular-season finale.
