BALTIMORE - Senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored a career-high six goals, while sophomore midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) and freshman attack Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) notched their first career hat tricks, as the UMBC women's lacrosse team (2-3) routed Holy Cross (2-3) by a score of 20-4 Friday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.
The Retrievers scored the first eight goals of the game and led, 11-2, at halftime. Dorr got UMBC on the board right out of the gates, converting a feed from sophomore attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) just 37 seconds into the contest. Dorr also finished the Retrievers' first-half scoring, finding the back of the net with 12 seconds remaining for her fourth goal of the period.
The Crusaders did not get on the scoreboard until midfielder Kaitlyn Curley tallied on a free-position shot with 4:54 to go in the first half.
Leading 14-4 with 16:20 remaining, the Retrievers scored the final six goals of the game.
Coady added two assists in the game for a career-high five points. Braerman also tallied five points on two goals and three helpers. Other Retrievers with multiple points included freshman midfielder Bria Phillips (2g, 1a), sophomore midfielder Carrie Paris (1g, 1a), junior attack Rachel Pincus (1g, 1a) and junior midfielder Amanda Gable (1g, 1a).
Dorr added four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers to tie for the team lead in all three categories. Stodter also caused three turnovers, while sophomore defender C.J. Durham (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Junior defender Sarah Willis (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also won four draw controls.
Holy Cross attack Katie Gardner and midfielder Kat Sutton led the Crusaders with two points on a goal and an assist apiece.
Junior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) recorded 10 saves, while Holy Cross keeper Amy Martin tallied nine stops.
