Retrievers Fall to Georgetown, 7-0, at D.C. Invitational

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Georgetown midfielder Samantha Baker scored twice to lead the host Hoyas past UMBC, 7-0, Friday afternoon at a soggy North Kehoe Field on the first day of the D.C. Invitational.

Georgetown started the game on the attack, and in the fourth minute forward Toni Marie Hudson scored off a pass from midfielder Caitlin Durkee, who got her second assist of the contest six minutes later when her cross from the left side was cleanly headed home by defender Michaela Buonomo.

A free kick opportunity in the 24th minute led to a goal by forward Sara Jordan for a 3-0 Hoya lead.

Georgetown held a 4-0 advantage at halftime after Baker converted a pass from forward Camille Trujillo in the 31st minute. Baker's second goal came off a cross from defender Erika Roberts and bounced under UMBC senior goalie Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) at the 52:30 mark.

Nearly two minutes later, Trujillo scored off a deflection for Georgetown's sixth goal of the game, and Roberts did the same early in the 64th minute to complete the Hoyas' scoring.

Bacinski made eight saves in goal for the Retrievers, who managed just two shots, both by freshman forward LeAnne Edgar (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon). Georgetown keeper Elizabeth Hanna stopped UMBC's only shot on goal and combined with Christina Rourke for the shutout.

The Hoyas out-shot the Retrievers, 24-2, including 17-0 in the first half. Georgetown also held a 16-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Retrievers return to action on Sunday when they take on American on the final day of the D.C. Invitational. Kick-off is set for 12 p.m. at North Kehoe Field.
