Season Ends for Women's Lacrosse with 14-5 Loss to No. 11 Boston University on Senior Day

BALTIMORE - Down just three at the half, the UMBC women's lacrosse team (4-12, 2-4 AEC) allowed seven straight goals to start the second period as No. 11 Boston University (13-2, 6-0) completed its perfect America East season with a 14-5 victory over the host Retrievers Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at UMBC Stadium. The Retrievers would have advanced to the four-team America East Tournament with a win, but instead their season comes to an end, as they miss the conference championships for the second straight year.

Before the game, the Retrievers honored seniors Maggie Chizmar, Meghan Keelan and Ali Levendusky, who played their final collegiate game.

The Terriers scored the first five goals of the game, but UMBC clawed its way back with four of the next five tallies to cut BU's advantage to just 6-4 with 47 seconds left in the first half.

But Boston attack McKinley Curro found the back of the net with six seconds remaining, giving the visitors a 7-4 halftime lead, and the Terriers carried the momentum into the second period, scoring seven unanswered, including three in a span of 32 seconds in the 14th minute, before Levendusky finally ended the streak with her 53rd goal of the season with 2:25 left on the clock.

BU midfielder Sarah Dalton led all scorers with five goals, including three in a row and four of the first five of the second half, while Curro (3g, 1a) and midfielder Molly Collins (1g, 3a) posted four points each.

Levendusky led the Retrievers with two goals and an assist, and she finishes her career with 139 career goals and 175 points, ranking fourth and seventh all-time in UMBC history. In addition, her 53 goals on the season tie the second-highest single-season total in school history, while her 59 points are the fifth-best season mark.

Freshman midfielder Erika Braerman was the only other Retriever with multiple points, as she tallied a goal and an assist. Keelan's assist on Braerman's goal at the end of the first half was her 21st of the season, giving her sole possession of fifth place on UMBC's single-season list, and she finishes her career with 46 helpers, 10th-best all-time.

UMBC freshman goalie Kate Quick tied a season high with 16 saves, while BU keeper Rachel Klein stopped nine shots.

The Terriers dominated on draw controls, winning 17 of 21, with Dalton taking five and midfielder Traci Landy four. BU also outshot UMBC, 38-19, including 20-9 in the second half, but the Retrievers held a 22-17 advantage on ground balls, with freshman defender C.J. Durham picking up five. Boston defender Kelly Munroe also corralled five ground balls.
