NORFOLK, Va. - The UMBC women's lacrosse team (2-4) could not overcome a 6-2 halftime deficit, as the Retrievers fell to host Old Dominion (3-0) by a score of 9-5 Saturday afternoon at Foreman Field.

Senior attack Ali Levendusky posted her fifth hat trick of the season, scoring UMBC's first goal, as well as the last two tallies of the game.

The Lady Monarchs jumped out to a 6-1 lead, sparked by two goals each by attacks Jessica Noone and Kelly Kimener. UMBC sophomore midfielder Kelly Burgoyne added her second goal of the season to send the Retrievers to the locker room down by four.

Kimener scored just 34 seconds into the second half, and Old Dominion increased its lead to 9-3, as the Retrievers' only goal in the first 24 minutes of the period was freshman midfielder Carrie Paris's first of her career. Levendusky then tallied twice in the final four minutes for the 9-5 final.

Kimener led all scorers with five points on three goals and two assists, while Noone also posted a hat trick for ODU.

UMBC junior Susie Sweeney went the distance in goal for the Retrievers and recorded eight saves. Sara Larson also stopped eight shots while going the distance for the Lady Monarchs.

Old Dominion held a commanding 30-11 advantage on shots, including 20-5 in the first half. The Lady Monarchs also won 11 of 16 draw controls in the game, but UMBC won the ground ball battle, 17-12.

The Retrievers return to action Monday, March 10, when they travel to Delaware to face the Blue Hens at 5 p.m.
