Hyland Takes 3,000 Meter Run as UMBC Indoor Track and Field Begins Season at Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa.-- The UMBC men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their seasons Saturday at the Bison Opener, with senior Alex Hyland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South/St. Francis (Pa.) was the lone Retriever to win an event, winning the 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:32.76.

Junior Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) finished third in the 60 meter dash in 7.72, while sophomore Jasmin Batchelor (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) placed fourth in the high jump at 1.55 meters.

On the men's side, sophomore Allieu Shaw (Gaithersburg, Md.) finished second in the triple jump with a IC4A-qualifying leap of 14.82 meters, while junior Keith Brown (Columbia, Md./McDonough) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in a IC4A-qualifying time of 8.18.

The Retrievers return to action after the holidays on Jan. 10 at the Gulden Relays back in Lewisburg, Pa.
