BALTIMORE-- The UMBC women's swimming and diving team avenged a loss to New Hampshire from last year, recording 10 season-best times on its way to a 147-126 victory Sunday afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium.
Junior Lindsay Sherman (Bethany, Conn./Amity) won three golds on the day, sweeping both butterfly events with season-best times. She finished first in the 100 fly (57.89), 200 fly (2:04.78) and was part of the 200 medley relay team with junior Tereza Kaplanova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium J.G. Jankovskeho) and freshmen Laura Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Ransom Everglades) and Ashley Miller (New Smyrna Beach, Fla./New Smyrna Beach), that finished in a season-best time of 1:50.50.
Senior Daniele Surkovich (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) also won three golds, including two UMBC season-best times in the 100 free (52.88) and 200 free (1:53.94). Surkovich also finished first as part of the 400 free relay team with junior Sam Maccherola (Woolford, Md./South Carroll/Tennessee), sophomore Sarah Ryan (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Oceanside) and Miller in a time of 3:37.01
Sophomore Rebecca Godwin (Catonsville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) swept the distance freestyle events, finishing the 500 free in a school season-best 5:07.90 and the 1,000 free in 10:27.09. Maccherola touched first in the 50 free in 24.98, a UMBC season-best time, while finishing second in both the 500 and 1,000 free.
Sophomore Amanda Shinholser (Burtonsville, Md./Springbrook) had a career day on the diving side, finishing second in the 3-meter with 197.85 points and third in the 1-meter with 190.28 points.
