UMBC defender Emily Renehan (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) is the UMBC Athlete of the Week after she was named the America East Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday morning by the league office.

The hard-nosed sophomore put on a brilliant defensive display in the Retrievers 12-11 triumph against the previously unbeaten (in conference) UAlbany Great Danes on Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.

Renehan enjoyed a career day as she forced a game-high four turnovers and scooped up a career-best three ground balls.

UMBC's (8-4, 3-1 AE) defense was sensational all afternoon. They caused 12 miscues and made the high-scoring Great Danes (4-8, 3-1 AE) work extremely hard on their offensive sets.
