Liam Meginniss is the UMBC Athlete of the Week after he broke a UMBC school record for the second consecutive week. A week ago, he shattered the school mark in the mile run and on the track at Liberty, he eclipsed the mark in the 1000m, posting a time of 2:24.73. On both occasions, he surpassed Jake Albino, who had broken both records in 2014. Albino held the 1000m mark at 2:25.48. In the second day of competition at Liberty, Meginniss kicked off the first heat of the men's 1000m run by capturing event gold. The time of 2:24.73 marks another PR for Meginniss this indoor campaign along with coming 0.2 seconds away from a Liberty meet record. He now finds himself second in the current America East rankings for the indoor 1000m run.
