Former UMBC cross country and track andfield athlete Lauren Leclercq joined the Retrievers’ coachingstaff in August 2013. She will serve both the men’s andwomen’s teams as a graduate assistantcoach.
A four-year letter winner for UMBC from2008-2012, Leclercq primarily ran the longer sprint eventsincluding the 200, 400, 500, and 4x400 relay. She captainedthe squad during her senior year in 2012.
Leclercq is a part of two schoolrecord-holding relay teams, earning the indoor 4x200 record(1:41.38) in 2011 and then adding the outdoor sprint medley relay(4:04.37) in 2012.
In addition to competing as a vital part ofthe Retriever relay squads, Leclercq earned a trip to the ECACChampionships in 2011 and 2012.
Prior to coming to UMBC, Leclercq competedin track and field as well as field hockey at Meade HighSchool. She was named a scholar-athlete all four years atMeade and earned the Marine Corp Award in 2008.
Leclercq graduated from UMBC with herbachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2012 and iscurrently working towards a master’s degree in earlychildhood education. She lives in Jessup, Md. with her twocats Chester and Binx.
