Matt Donovan announced the Retrievers' 2023-24 schedule, which features a September opener, a home meet versus Navy and a new site for the America East Championships.
The women and men open the campaign on Saturday, Sept. 30 when they make the short trip to Washington, D.C. to take on American University for the first time since 2003.
UMBC will open the home slate the following Saturday, Oct. 7 when they entertain La Salle on Parents' Weekend. The meet versus the Explorers gets underway at noon.
The program will celebrate Homecoming 2023 and the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame induction of Emily Escobedo, '17 by hosting the Black & Gold/Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 14 (2:30 p.m.). The Retrievers cap the three-meet UMBC Aquatic Complex swing by welcoming Navy on Friday, Oct. 20 at 4:00 p.m.
Other home meets take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 when St. Peter's and Manhattan visit on the program's annual Professor Appreciation Meet and on Saturday, Jan. 20 when in-state teams from Salisbury and Frostburg State compete versus UMBC on Senior Day.
"We are extremely excited about the upcoming season; this is a great mix of new competition and familiar rivalries," said Donovan. "We have a large group of incoming athletes that are excited to help our returners make our mark on the 2023-2024 season."
The post-season gets underway on February 14-17 when the men hope to defend their title and the women strive to re-capture the crown at the America East Swimming & Diving Championships. The championships move south to Lexington, Va. in 2024 as associate league member VMI hosts at the one-year old VMI Aquatic Center.
