Athletics Hall of Fame Inductions Moved to Homecoming Weekend

#RetrieverNation will honor the current class of inductees on Friday, Oct. 7

BALTIMORE - UMBC Director of Athletics Brian Barrio is pleased to announce that the 2020-21 Athletics Hall of Fame Inductions and all subsequent ceremonies will be moved to the university's annual Homecoming celebration weekend.

#RetrieverNation will honor the current class of inductees on Friday evening, Oct. 7, 2022 and publicly recognize the group at other alumni events and the men's soccer home game on Saturday, Oct. 8.

"While the two postponements in 2020 and earlier this month were disappointing, we are thrilled that our Athletics Hall of Fame has found a perfect spot on the UMBC's prime-time weekend for alumni engagement," said Barrio. "We are very appreciative of the support that our offices of Alumni Engagement and Institutional Advancement have shown us during this process."

UMBC Athletics had to postpone planned inductions for this group in April of 2020 and February of 2021 due to COVID-19.

Barrio hopes that all eight members of the class will be able to attend the October festivities.

The class consists of:
  • Cornelia Carapcea, Women's Tennis, 2005-09
  • Dana Eberly Keiner, Volleyball, 1993-96
  • Levi Houapeu, Men's Soccer, 2007-10
  • Mohamed Hussein, Swimming, 2011-14
  • Mercedes Jackson, Track and Field, 2011-15
  • Terry Kimener, Lacrosse, 2004-08
  • Steve Levy, Associate Director of Athletics/Director of Athletic Communications, 1986-present
  • Jean Salkeld Battista, Softball, 1997-98

More information about the induction ceremony will be available later this spring.
