Fairfax, Va.—Rodney Sachiti turned in a pair of first place finishes in the long and triple jumps at the George Mason Patriot Games to lead a slew of Retrievers. The Retrievers were back in action after a week off, last competing early in the month.
Sachiti finished the long jump with his best jump of 6.83m before finishing the triple jump with a jump of 13.78m, earning gold in both events. Divinus Muteba and Maurice Johnson also had strong showing in the field with Muteba taking silver in the high jump (2.01m) and Johnson finishing seventh in the shot put (14.98m).
On the track, Glory Fagbuyi earned a pair of top ten finishes, taking fifth in the 60m dash (7.04) and eighth in the 200m dash (23.30). Brian Nelson took second in the 200m dash with a time of 22.38. A trio of Retrievers went five-six-seven in the 400m dash. Taheer Pierce took fifth in 51.79, Peter Mensah finished in sixth at 52.71 with Parker Tewell taking seventh in 52.79.
Michael Arnold, Joel Evans and Chris Thoms rounded out the top finishers on the track for UMBC with Arnold taking sixth in the 500m (1:07.69), Evans taking fifth in the 800m (1:58.90) and Thoms finishing ninth in the 3,000m (8:58.24).
The 4x400m relay team of Nelson, Trenson Terry, Pierce and Arnold finished in first with a time of 3:24.17.
On the women's side, Edeline Davies turned in a pair of top finishes, taking sixth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.96 and fifth in the 200m dash in a time of 25.84. Pharist O'Neal and Petronilla Onyebadi finished four-five in the 60m dash with time of 7.87 and 7.94 respectively. O'Neal then turned in a time of 26.63 in the 200m dash.
Collese Daley and Ayanna Johnson finished three-seven in the 400m dash with times of 58.62 and 1:00.44. Other top runners included Catherine Jordan in the 500m dash (8th, 1:23.00), Melissa Kameka in the 800m run (8th, 2:22.36), Madison Armonda in the mile (5th, 5:12.54) and Emmy Beyer in the 3,000m (8th, 10:34.78).
The 4x400m relay team of Daley, Johnson, Kameka, and Samantha Kameka finished fourth in a time of 4:03.51.
In the field, Jasmine Holland turned in a seventh-place finish in the long jump (5.05m) and fifth place finish in the triple jump (10.99m). Onyebadi took sixth in the long jump at 5.09m with Deja Ravenell and Eleni Zotou finishing eighth in the long jump (5.01m) and sixth in the weight throw (14.83m) respectively.
The Retrievers will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Penn State for the Penn State National Open on Friday and Saturday.
