Baltimore, Md. – UMBC track and field takes the trip to New Jersey this Friday to build off their strong outdoor season start last weekend in Gainesville, in which the Retrievers saw multiple members qualify for NCAA prelims as well as the IC4A/ECAC.

The Retrievers efforts in their opening meet of the outdoor season was headlined by their performances in the javelin throw for both the men and women. Freshman Kelechi Nwanaga shattered UMBC's previous record in the event, throwing a distance of 51.64m, which was good enough for third place. Senior Tony White threw a distance of 63.67m to take second place all-time for UMBC, and eighth place last weekend. Both Nwanaga and White are heading to the NCAA prelims with their distances.
Also in the field for the men, sophomore Alexios Prodanas threw a near-personal best distance in the hammer throw of 64,76m. This was good enough to earn him first place.
On the track, junior Nathan Nadal finished in eleventh in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:17.99 to put him sixth all-time at UMBC, and qualifying him for IC4A's. Freshman Taylor Baranoski ran the sixth fastest 1,500m in UMBC's history, with a time of 3:54.27.
The men's distance medley relay team of Ifa Eado, Erik Jenks, Miles Smith, and Matt Kane took seventh place after crossing the line in 10:09.25, while the 4x200m relay team of John Oputa, Brian Nelson, Andrew Daniels, and Noel Njem finished in 1:28.20 to take fifteenth.
For the women, sophomore Kaya Knake ran a personal best time of 2:09.83 in the 800m run. Her time was also good for the second fastest in Retriever history.
In the 4x100m relay, Collese Daley, Amani Wallace, Erin Patrice, and Kara Patrice qualified for the ECAC, running a time of 46.86, while Briana Roberts, Ariella Garcia, Bridgett Redding, and Knake ran a time of 9:02.39 to take home seventh.

The Retrievers will head to George Mason in Fairfax, Va. to compete in the Mason Spring Invitational next Saturday.
