Nwanaga Takes Fourth in Javelin Throw as UMBC Completes Day One of Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. – Freshman Kelechi Nwanaga finished in fourth place in Thursday's javelin throw at the Penn Relays after throwing 51.92m.  This distance is the furthest in school history, breaking her own record from earlier in the season.

Also competing on Thursday was the 4x100m relay team of Funmi Daramola, Amani Wallace, Erin Patrice, and Kara Patrice, who finished in 17th place with a time of 46.22.  This time qualifies the team for the College Final on Friday.  Daramola and Wallace also ran in the 4x400m relay, along with Tori Johnson and Collese Daley, in which they finished in 3:48.11 to take 19th place and qualify for the Eastern Final event on Saturday.

The women's distance medley team of Kaya Knake, Ariella Garcia, Bridgett Redding and Briana Roberts ran the event in 12:22.82, while Tori Johnson finished the 400m hurdles in 1:04.28. 

For the men, Nathan Nadal and Rhys Burgett competed in the 3,000m steeplechase.  Nadal took 14th with a time of 9:11.84, and Burgett finished in 9:17.95.  Nadal's time was fifth best in Retriever history.

The Retrievers continue action in Philadelphia tomorrow, with their first event beginning at 9:00 AM.
