Track and Field Begin Weekend in Penn State

State College, Pa. – The UMBC track and field team got their weekend started in State College with day one of the Penn State National Invitational.

The men were led by the distance medley team of seniors Ifa Eado and John Oputa, sophomore Miles Smith, and freshman Taylor Baranoski who placed fourth with a time of 10:07.18. 

Junior Jamal Cody placed third in the 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.13.  Brian Nelson qualified from the preliminaries in 15th in the 60m dash with a time of 7.05.

For the women, junior Kelsey Ponton placed 11th in the 5,000m run, crossing the line in 18:00.46, while classmate Erin Patrice qualified 12th in the semi-finals for the 60m dash with a time of 7.80.

The Retrievers will remain in action tomorrow at Penn State, as well as half of the team traveling to George Mason to take part in the George Mason Invitational in Fairfax.
