Cody, Slonski Breaks School Record on Day Two of Penn Relays

RESULTS

Philadelphia, Pa.—UMBC track and field continued their strong start to the Penn Relays with another broken school record, this time by Jamal Cody in the 400m hurdles.

Cody finished the race in sixth place with a new school record time of 52.27, breaking the record he set just a few weeks back. Teammates Andrew Daniels, Darrius Oxley and Marcus Foster also competed in the race. Daniels finished in 24th with a time of 53.65. Oxley (54.99) and Foster (55.35) took 35th and 38th in the race.

Cody then teamed with Erick Soetje, Daniels and Foster to take 28th in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:14.91. The 4x200m relay team of James Oakley III, Brian Nelson, Noel Njem and Afees Abolurin earned a spot in the IC4A final tomorrow with a 15th place finish in a time of 1:27.06. That same quartet finished the 4x100m relay in 30th place with a time of 42.16.

The final race contested by the Retrievers was in the distance medley, where Urgy Eado, John Oputa, Miles Smith and Matthew Kane were a second off the school record with a time of 10:03.98 to finish in 13th place.

In the field, Jacob Netschke took home 17th in the high jump clearing a height of 2.00m (6'6.75"). Russell Bowman took 32nd in the shot put with a toss of 14.95m (49'1.75").

On the women's side, a pair of relays earned spots in the ECAC finals tomorrow. Erin Patrice, Amani Wallace, Kara Patrice and Funmi Daramola led off the day with a third place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.55. Daramola, Wallace, Erin Patrice, and Yinka Alabi finished the 4x200m relay in a time of 1:39.09, good for 13th place.

In the field, Abigale Slonski took home silver in the javelin with a toss of 45.15m (148'1"), setting a new school record.

The final day of the Penn Relays will kick off at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
