Omar, Rentzsch Named #AETF Track and Field Performers of the Week

Boston, Mass.—UMBC track and field seniors Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and Vincent Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany / Elite Sportschule Potsdam) earned America East Track and Field Performer of the Week honors, the conference announced Wednesday.

Omar broke the school record in the 10,000m run, finishing 13th in the event to lead UMBC on day one of the Raleigh Relays. Omar finished the distance race with a time of 29:31, breaking the previous school best time of 30:17 set all the way back in 1985. The time for Omar puts him in the range to qualify to the NCAA Preliminaries in May.

Rentzsch broke his own school record in the javelin on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays. Rentzsch had a toss of 74.28m (243'8") to break his own school record by over ten feet.

The Retrievers will compete at the Florida Relays and Colonial Relays this Thursday, March 31 through Saturday, April 2.
