Women's Lacrosse Headed to the Steel City to Meet Duquesne Dukes Saturday at 11 a.m.

BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's lacrosse team is back on the field this Saturday, March 29, to take on Duquesne University at 11 a.m. The Retrievers are headed to Pittsburgh to take on the Dukes at Rooney Field.

Scouting the Retrievers (5-3)

  • UMBC dropped a heartbreaker to Winthrop, 7-6, at home last Saturday. An inability to score on free-position attempts and trouble at the draw control hurt the Retrievers early.
  • Junior goalkeeper Ashley Peacock (Crofton, Md./Elizabeth Seton/Louisville) made six saves in the loss and is averaging 8.53 goals against this season. The transfer is third in the conference rankings in save percentage (47.5) and saves per game (7.12). As a unit, Peacock and the defense currently occupy the number four spot in the conference in terms of goals against average (8.25).
  • Sophomore attacker Carolyn Jamison (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was held to just one goal in the loss to Winthrop. It was her lowest scoring game of the season, and the first time she did not score multiple goals in a game. Jamison's assist in that game keeps her season-long streak of recording multiple points in every game alive.
  • Junior attacker Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) reached the 20-goal plateau after a four-goal outing last weekend. Nolan, Jamison and sophomore midfielder Marissa Davey (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) are all in the America East's top-ten for goals per game.
  • The offense has been creating plenty of chances so far this season. UMBC currently has four players in the conference top-ten for shots per game, more than any other team. The Retrievers are the top scoring team in the America East with a 12.25 goals per game average.
  • The Retrievers open the America East Conference season with a pair of road games before heading back home to host the University at Albany on April 9.

Scouting the Dukes (2-4)

  • The Dukes suffered a 9-4 setback to Michigan last Sunday. Sophomore attacker Jill Vacanti led Duquesne with four goals, and senior goalkeeper Jenna Bishop made nine saves in the loss.
  • Vacanti leads the Dukes' offense with a team-high 13 goals. Red-shirt sophomore Macy Marafioti's five assists leads the team.
  • Bishop has started every game this season, and is averaging 12.25 goals against.

Inside the Series

  • The Retrievers trail in the all-time series, 2-1.
  • The Dukes beat UMBC in back-to-back seasons in 2011 and 2012.
  • Prior to 2011, the teams last met in 1997. The Retrievers came out on top in that one with a 17-1 victory at home.
