Annapolis, Md.—UMBC swimming and diving picked up a gold medal by Emily Escobedo on Saturday, as several Retrievers found themselves in A finals. The Retrievers will conclude the meet tomorrow from Navy.
"We had another great day today, and we are so proud of our athletes," Head Coach Chad Cradock said. "Emily had a great swim in the 400 IM, as we continue to prepare for NCAA's."
Escobedo took gold in the 400 IM, hitting an NCAA B cut in the process. The junior touched the wall in a time of 4:11.73, a full six seconds ahead of second place.
A pair of Retrievers earned finals spots in the 100 fly. Junior Amanda Day took sixth in the A finals with a time of 55.78. Allison Atkinson finished the B finals in sixth place (14th overall) with a time of 57.50.
Courtney Hadden finished seventh (15th) overall in the 200 free B finals. Hadden touched in with a time of 1:53.25.
Two UMBC swimmers reached finals in the 100 back, led by Lauren Day. Day placed fourth in the A finals with a time of 55.31. Freshman Cassandra Willie finished fourth in the B finals, touching in at 57.75.
On the men's side, Gregor Spoerlein hit the medal stand again, winning the B finals of the 100 fly with a time of 49.39. Andrew McKissick finished sixth in his B final of the 200 free. The junior touched in with a time of 1:41.69.
Nikola Trajkovic found himself in another A final on Saturday, this time in the 100 breast. Nikola finished in seventh place with a time of 56.17.
The championships will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 28 with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
