Penn State Nation Open Results | Terrapin Invitational Results
Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC track and field completed the final day of the Penn State National Open, as well as the Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. Both squads saw success, with several Retrievers hitting near ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks.
At Penn State, Essence Fredericks turned in a top five performance in the 500m dash, taking fourth in a time of 1:16.39. Angelina Oputa finished sixth in the 1,000m, crossing the tape in a time of 2:57.03.
Down in Landover, Madeleine Entwistle took home 11th in the 300m, crossing the finish line in a time of 43.84. Yinka Alabi had the best finish by a Retriever in the 200m dash, taking fourth in 26.04. Finally, Angel Bucci turned in a top ten finish in the 3,000m, taking ninth in a time of 10:34.40.
In the field, Jean Udo took fifth in the long jump, with her best jump coming at a distance of 5.27m. She then procceded to break the school triple jump record with a jump of 37'6.5". Emma Gerhold and Caitlyn Davis tied for third in the pole vault, each clearing a height of 3.10m.
On the men's side, Erick Soetje earned gold in the 500m dash setting a new personal best with a time of 1:04.66 while teammate Darrius Oxley placed third in a time of 1:05.18. Ty Thronson came just short of qualifying for IC4A's in the 800m with a time of 1:54.70.
Sophomore Urgy Eado placed third in the 1,000m with a time of 2:28.57, sixth best in school history. Senior Nick Johnson was right behind him in fourth with a time of 2:29.10.
At the Terrapin Invite, Luke Kessler led the charge with a tenth place finish in the 5,000m, finishing in 16:03.04. Jamal Cody took home a fourth place finish in the 60m hurdle, finishing the finals in a time of 8.50. Cody followed that up with a fifth place finish in the 400m, crossing the tape in 51.37.
In the field, Musangu Bukasa took fourth and fifth place in the triple jump and high jump respectively. His best jumps came at 12.88m in the triple jump and 1.83m in the high jump.
UMBC returns to the track next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6 at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge in Penn State. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
