Omar Closes Out NCAA Preliminaries on Saturday

Jacksonville, Fla.—UMBC track and field junior Hassan Omar rounded out the competiton on Saturday, competing in the 5,000m run. Omar finished in the top 30 in the final individual event of the weekend.

Omar ran a 14:31.47, good for 15th in his heat and 29th overall. He improved on his run in the America East Championship, where he won the 5,000m with a time of 14:40.90 on his way to being named Most Outstanding Track Performer.

Vincent Rentzsch will head to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA finals in the javelin. He had a toss of 69.18m, placing him in sixth place in the event.
