Princeton, N.J.—The UMBC track and field team completed the second day of the ECAC/IC4A meet on Saturday. Several Retrievers qualified for final heats on Sunday, as UMBC wraps up the 2015 outdoor season.
Mercedes Jackson continued her strong senior season, finishing as the top qualifier in the 100m dash prelims and semifinals. Jackson ran an 11.59 and 11.50 respectively to earn the top qualifying spot for Sunday's finals. Mercedes Tillman placed 12th in the 400m dash trials, crossing the line with a time of 55.48.
Sarah Daly set a new school record in the 1,500m run. Her time of 4:27.08 not only breaks the record, but qualifies her for Sunday's finals. Paulette Fogle found success in the 400m hurdles, qualifying for finals with a time of 59.74 in the trials.
The other top finisher for the women was the 4x400m relay team. Tillman, Essence Fredericks, Kalane Abbey, and Fogle set a new school record in the event, crossing the tape in a time of 3:41.97, finishing fifth in the event.
On the men's side, Daryian Miles made his way to the semis of the 100m dash, finishing with times of 10.86 and 10.87.
The 4x100m relay squad of Afees Abolurin, James Oakley, Gideon Ampofo-Willams, and Miles finished ninth with a time of 41.45. The quartet of Nick Johnson, Charles Bolinger, Rami Phillips, and Matt Rever qualified for the finals on Sunday in the 4x800m relay. The foursome finished in eighth place with a time of 7:36.96.
In the field, Thor Serafenas took home sixth place in the hammer throw. Serafenas finished with his best throw of 59.01m.
UMBC track and field will conclude the meet today, Sunday May 17 in Princeton.
