Boston, Mass.—UMBC senior Mercedes Jackson earned ECAC Most Outstanding Performer after winning the 60m dash on Sunday. She is one of several Retrievers to have strong performances at the meet.
Jackson took first in the prelims yesterday, before winning in the finals today of the 60m dash. Jackson crossed the tape in 7.37, the fastest time ever for the meet.
The UMBC distance Medley team of Angelina Oputa, Essence Fredericks, Mary Katherine Kulp and Sophia Cologer took fourth place, with a time of 11:51.18. Paulette Fogle had another strong day, lowering her school record in the 500m to 1:12.78, finishing in second.
The quartet of Mercedes Tillman, Fogle, Kalane Abbey and Funmi Daramola took fourth place, besting their own school mark in the 4x400m relay. The team finished in a time of 3:43.61.
Ozi Edokobi took gold in the shot put with a toss of 15.64m. That mark is second best all-time at UMBC behind former Olympian Cleo Borel.
On the men's side, Daryian Miles led things off with an eighth place finish in the 60m dash. Miles crossed the line in a time of 7.05. The only other men's runners were the 4x800m relay squad of Ty Thronson, Charles Bolinger, Brandon Berjarano, and Nick Johnson. The foursome finished in ninth with a time of 7:48.05.
Yao Adantor took fourth in the shot put, tossing a 17.10m throw. Isahq Rana placed 18th in the event with a throw of 15.25m.
