PRINCETON, N.J. – UMBC
sophomore Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown)
ran a new career-best and school record time to claim the top
honors in the 100m dash at the ECAC/IC4A Championships, Sunday
afternoon at Weaver Stadium.
Already holding the record time (11.57) from her performance at
the Mason Spring Invitational, Jackson raced past the regional
field on Sunday with a time of 11.51. Her run moves her
into a tie for 15th in the NCAA East Region as the sophomore
standout now prepares for the East Preliminary meet to be held on
May 24-25 in Greenville, N.C.
Eight-time America East shot put champion Amanda
Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) earned a top-ten finish in
the event at Princeton. The senior recorded her best
toss of 14.50m (47'7.00") in her first attempt of the finals to
claim eighth place.
For the men, junior Yao
Adantor (Laurel, Md./Reservoir/Morgan State/Maryland)
landed just a foot short of his school-record mark with a heave of
16.29m (53'5.50") to finish 14th.
Junior Jake
Albino (Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) took fifth in the
1,500m run with a time of 3:49.67. Albino finished just two
seconds behind the race winner, Issac Wendland of Liberty
(3:47.32).
In the 4x100 relay, the men's team of junior Pat
Balderson (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore), Jenove
Blanfort, and seniors Trae
Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) and Dennison
Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) took eighth
with a time of 41.72.
School record holder Vincent
Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany) finished 13th in the
javelin competition with a heave of 59.72m (195'11).
