Women's 4x200 Relay Squad Breaks School Record on Day Two of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – The UMBC women's 4x200 relay team of junior Kirsten Jones (Brentwood, Tenn./M.L.K Magnet), freshman D'Nique Phillip (Elkton, Md.) and sophomores Kalane' Abbey (Laurel, Md./Laurel), and Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) combined to set a new school record, Friday afternoon at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

The team crossed the line in a time of 1:37.92 to place 19th in the competition and edge the previous school-best of 1:38.04 which was set at last's years Penn Relays.

Jackson's day was not done, however, as the sophomore earned a top-ten finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.75, her third-fastest this spring.  Jackson currently leads the America East with her season-best and school-record time of 11.57 which she set at the Mason Spring Invitational.

For the men, the sprint relay team of senior Dennison Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU),Jenove Blanfort, junior Andrew Smith (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley), and freshman Andrew Keresztes (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson) took 25th.  The team's time of 3:29.97 was just two seconds off the school-record pace of 3:27.48 set in 1994.

In the 110m hurdles, senior Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) recorded his second-fastest time of the season, crossing the line in 14.44 and placing 18th.

Junior Yao Adantor (Laurel, Md./Reserrvoir/Morgan St./Maryland) took 11th in the shot put with a toss of 15.48m (50'9.80").

The Penn Relays continue on Saturday morning as the Racewalk opens the final day of the meet.
