BALTIMORE – UMBC freshman Vincent
Rentzsch (Orianenburg, Germany) shattered his own school
record and won the javelin competition on day one of the Morgan
State Legacy Meet, Friday afternoon outside of Hughes Stadium.
Already the school record holder and the first Retriever to ever
surpass the 200-foot barrier, Rentzsch went even further on Friday,
besting the field with a career-best throw of 65.40m (214'7") on
his first attempt. In his last throw, Rentzsch recorded
the second-best distance in the competition as well (61.71m,
209'0").
Rentzsch has broken the school record four times this spring,
beginning with his first UMBC meet, the Florida State Relays on
Mar. 22. He also reset the record at the Big Dawg
Invitational as well as at the Mason Spring Invitational last
weekend.
Sophomore Thor
Serafenas (Olney, Md./Good Counsel/Clemson) nearly equaled
his teammate's performance, winning the hammer throw, but just off
of his school-record toss. At Morgan State, Serafenas
won the competition with a heave of 56.50m (185'4"), his
second-farthest of the season. His best toss of 56.85m
(186'6") at the Big Dawg Invitational on Mar.
30. Junior Ray Stinsman
III (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) took third in the
competition with a personal-best toss of 50.58m (165'11"), moving
up to seventh all-time at UMBC.
On the women's side, junior Emma
Mayne (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) set a personal-record in
the javelin. Mayne finished 11th in the event with
career-best distance of 27.46m (90'1").
In the hammer, senior Amanda
Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) took fourth with
freshman Nneoma Edokobi (Rockville, Md./Richard
Montgomery) finishing 12th.
The Morgan State Legacy Meet will continue on Saturday morning
with the decathlon continuing at 9:30 a.m. The discus,
as well as the women's 400m hurdles will start at 10:00 a.m. at
Hughes Stadium.
