2013 NCAA Results - Day 1
INDIANAPOLIS – UMBC junior Mohamed
Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) finished 17th in
the prelims for the 200 IM, just missing out on tonight's
consolation finals, with a new school record time of 1:44.44,
Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Championships at IU Natatorium.
Hussein's time slips under his previous school mark of 1:44.60,
but missed the cut for the event consolation finals by just
.20. Pavel Sankovich from Florida State
claimed that last spot by finishing in 1:44.24.
The versatile junior is first UMBC male swimmer to compete at
the NCAA Championships, and just the third Retriever to ever reach
this stage after Jackie
Wisnauskus and Lindsey
Prather did so in 1990 and 2002, respectively.
Florida's Marcin Cieslak recorded the
top time (1:42.52) in the morning round for the individual medley,
taking the top spot into tonight's final. Kyle
Whitaker of Michigan gained the eighth and final spot
in the finals with a time of 1:43.55.
Hussein continues his meet in Indianapolis with the 200
freestyle on Friday, followed by the 200 backstroke on
Saturday.
