FSU Relays Day 2 Results
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Heavy rain and
inclement weather cut competition short for the UMBC track and
field team on Saturday, day two of the Florida State Relays at Mike
Long Track.
A day after setting a personal-best in the hammer throw,
sophomore Thor
Serafenas (Olney, Md./Good Counsel/Clemson) jumped into
the UMBC top-ten in the discus. Serafenas recorded a
throw of 43.87m (143'11.00") to move into eighth-place all-time
while finishing tenth in the
competition. Freshman Vincent
Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany) also competed in the
event, placing 13th (39.26m, 128'9.00").
On the track, sophomore Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown)
earned a top-ten finish in the 200m dash. The school
record holder in the event, Jackson finished sixth with a time of
24.26. Freshman D'Nique Phillip (Elkton, Md.) and sophomore Kalane'
Abbey (Laurel, Md./Laurel) placed 37th and 44th, respectively,
for the Retrievers.
In the men's race, senior Dennison
Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) moved into a
tie for ninth-place in the school record book by placing 11th
overall in the event with a personal-best time of
21.80. Classmate Trae
Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) took 32nd with a
time of 23.52.
The UMBC track and field team now returns home to hosts its
first meet since the 2011 America East Championships with the Big
Dawg Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 30 at UMBC
Stadium. The meet will be streamed live on
UMBCRetrievers.tv.
