BOSTON – Three UMBC school records fell and multiple athletes advanced to event finals to be tomorrow, Saturday afternoon at the IC4A and ECAC Championships at the Boston University Track and Field Pavilion.

Junior Kirsten Jones (Brentwood, Tenn./M.L.K. Magnet) led the way for the Retrievers by breaking two school marks and anchoring the 4x400 relay team to a new school-best standard.  Despite missing out on the event finals, Jones opened her day in the 400m dash, finishing with a time of 55.80, breaking the mark of 55.91 set by Sharon Johnson over thirty years ago in 1980.  She also competed the 200m dash, and advanced to Sunday's final by setting a personal-best by crossing the line in 24.52, the third-fastest time in school history.

In the final women's event of the day, Jones anchored the team of Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara), Kalane' Abbey (Laurel, Md./Laurel), and D'Nique Phillip (Elkton, Md.) into the finals as well as the Retriever record book.  The foursome finished seventh with a time of 3:44.06, besting the squad's own record which it set earlier this year at the Armory Collegiate Invitational (3:46.97).

Sophomore Sarah Daly (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) got in on the record-breaking by cruising past the old mark by almost a second.  Daly completed the race in a personal-best time of 2:12.65 to best the previous record of 2:13.53 set by Yasmin Fields in 2004.

Though not setting a new school mark, sophomore Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) moved on the 60m dash finals to be held on Sunday by topping the standings in both the preliminary round as well as semifinals.  Jackson ran a 7.43 in her first race of the day and then lowered her time to 7.40 in the semis.

For the men, senior Dennison Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) moved on to the finals for the 60m dash with a prelim time of 6.98.  He also competed in the 200m dash, and despite not qualifying for the finals, Long set a new personal-record and moved to third in the UMBC record book with a time of 21.57.

Three-time America East champion Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) also moved on to Sunday's finals, finishing fourth in the 60m hurdles with a mark of 8.06.

Freshman Andrew Keresztes (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson) advanced in the 1,000m run with a personal-best time of 2:26.77.

In the weight throw, sophomore Thor Serafenas (Olney, Md./Good Counsel/Clemson) recorded a new personal-record with a heave of 17.27m (56'8.00").

The IC4A and ECAC Championships will wrap up tomorrow with the event finals for the running competitions while also conducting the men's long jump, pole vault and shot put, as well as the women's shot put and long jump competitions.
