BALTIMORE – UMBC women's lacrosse's
hits the road for the first of two road games when it travels to
Wagner on Monday, March 18. The Retrievers look to continue to
build momentum, having won three of their last four contests, as
they enter into America East play on Saturday against Boston
University. Monday's game time is set for 3 p.m. at Hameline
Field.
The black and gold picked up an 18-4 victory against Mount St.
Mary's on Friday night at the UMBC Stadium. UMBC (5-2) had seven
different players score en route to their highest scoring total of
the season, including a career-high five goals from junior
midfielder Kristen Bilney (Ellicott City, Md./Mt.
Hebron), while sophomore midfielder Alyssa
Semones (Westminster, Md./Westminster/Penn State), the
Retrievers' points leader, added two goals and four assists for six
points in the contest. Sophomore Abby Wilson (Bel Air,
Md./Fallston) and junior Mary Milligan (Edgewater, Md./South
River/Anne Arundel CC) also registered hat tricks.
UMBC has five players with 10-plus goals, led by Bilney's
team-best 17 scores. Semones pilots the squad with 26 draw
controls, 16 goals, eight assists and 24 points.
Junior Shannon Harkey (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun
Valley/Florida) has connected on six of nine free position shots on
the season and has 14 goals on the year.
Goalkeeper Kendall Mason (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold
Spring Harbor), who entered the week ranked 24th in Division I in
saves, only needed to make one stop in the victory against the
Mount. Mason has seen all the action in net this season for the
Retrievers and has made 44 stops.
Wagner (4-3) dropped back-to-back contests last week, getting
edged by Liberty University, 12-11, on Sunday and falling, 16-6, to
Lafayette on Wednesday. Senior attacker Annie O'Connor scored two
goals and assisted on two others against the Leopards, while
sophomore attacker Jessica Mills, the team-leader in goals (15),
assists (21) and points (36), also found the net
twice.
O'Connor and freshman midfielder Casey McCarthy have also added
14 goals apiece for the Seahawks on the season. O'Connor has added
seven assists on the year for 21 points, while McCarthy, the NEC
Rookie of the Week, leads the team with 14 draw controls.
