CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – UMBC
sophomore Katie Bean (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) finished
22nd in the women's 1-meter competition and senior Andrew
Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) placed 24th in the
men's 3-meter event, on Day Two of the NCAA Zone "A" Diving Meet at
the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
For Bean, it is her second top-25 finish at the meet, after
placing 21st yesterday in the 3-meter
competition. Today, the America East Most Outstanding
Female Diver scored 223.00 points, just 3.30 points behind the 18th
place finisher who advanced to the
finals. Freshman Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) also competed for
the Retrievers, placing 41st by scoring 182.25 points.
In the men's competition, Eckhoff finished his career by scoring
275.45 in the 3-meter prelims and placing 24th. The
3-meter record holder for UMBC, Eckhoff is a two-time America East
Most Outstanding Male Diver after sweeping both competitions at
this year's conference meet in Maine. In addition, he
won both events at the ECAC meet at Harvard to earn Most
Outstanding Diver honors there as well.
Competing at his first Zones meet, sophomore Ryan
Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) placed 34th on
Saturday with a score of 233.45 in the prelims.
The NCAA Zone "A" Meet wraps up tomorrow with the men's and
women's platform diving competition.
