Men's Outdoor Track Takes Home Pair of Gold Medals at 2024 IC4A/ECAC Championships

Fairfax, Va. - This past weekend, the UMBC men's outdoor track & field squad secured a solid 7th place out of 36 squads at the 2024 IC4A/ECAC Championships, held on George Mason University's campus. 

The Retrievers finished with 36 points and won a pair of gold medals at the event, which was won by the Navy (133 points).  George Mason (77 points) and Rhode Island (68 points) finished second and third respectively.

Graduate student Michael Arnold won the gold medal in the 400 hurdles with a personal best time of 51.41 (62nd NCAA).

One of the most exhilarating moments of the event was the 4 x 800-meter relay, in which the Retrievers emerged victorious with a season-best time of 7:28.84. The winning quartet, comprising Senior Zachary Taylor, junior Mark Unger, freshman Sofiane Compaorg, and classmate Tyler Edson, showcased their determination.

The Retrievers had a good result in the 800 meters as Unger took fourth in a personal-best time of 1:50.42 while Edson placed seventh in 1:51.11 (season-best).

Sophomore Aiden Walker finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 49.60 meters (162-08).

Senior Ali Bowen took fifth in the 100 meters (10.71).
