BALTIMORE-- UMBC Softball head coach
Chris Kuhlmeyer today announced the Retrievers' 2023 schedule, which features 30 home contests at the newly renovated Diamond at UMBC.
With the installation of a brand new lighting system, three-time defending America East champion UMBC will be able to host night contests for the first time in program history. The facility will also play host to the 2023 America East Tournament from May 10-13.
The season opens on February 17-18 with the UMBC Round Robin #1, as the Retrievers welcome Kent State and Niagara to Baltimore. After another home tournament the following weekend, UMBC will play in a pair of games at a single-day tournament at Morgan State.
The Retrievers will play their first traditional night game on March 8, when they welcome Mount St. Mary's for a 6 p.m. contest.
UMBC will host another tournament the following weekend before a five game tournament at Penn State the following weekend. After a pair of mid-week home games against Coppin State and Hofstra, the Retrievers will welcome America East newcomer Bryant to The Diamond for a three game series beginning March 25 at noon.
Conference play continues for the rest of the season, with the exception of a pair of mid-week non-conference contests. UMBC will host local rival Towson at 6 p.m. on April 12, and then head to Maryland for a 6 p.m. contest the following Wednesday.
