Khairat Earns Silver; Men’s Track and Field Finishes Fifth at America East Championships

UMBC men’s track and field finished the 2022 America East Outdoor Championships in fifth place, their best finish since 2018 where they took third.

Burlington, Vt.-- UMBC men's track and field finished the 2022 America East Outdoor Championships in fifth place, their best finish since 2018 where they took third. Ibrahim Khairat led the way with a silver medal in the triple jump as several Retrievers earned all conference honors.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Khairat took second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.98m, the best finish of any Retriever on Sunday.
Cameron Rice was just behind him in sixth with a jump of 13.88m.
On the track, Marquis Miller earned all-conference honors in the 400m with a third place finish in a time of 47.80. Miller also finished fourth in the 200m in 21.37.
Nicolas Alphonse turned in a pair of fourth place finishes in the 110m hurdles (14.73) and the 400m hurdles (53.88).
Shavar Staats and Brian Nelson went four-six in the 100m dash with times of 10.60 and 10.74 respectively.
Michael Arnold earned all-conference honors with his second place finish in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 53.34.
Sam Brosh in the 1,500m (5th, 4:02.64) and Tyler Dregely in the 800m (8th, 1:54.86) also had top ten finishes on the day.
The 4x400m relay team of Arnold, MIller, Alphonse, and Anthony McKenzie earned bronze in the race with a time of 3:17.40.

UAlbany won the team title, beating out UMass Lowell and Binghamton in second and third. New Hampshire was just ahead of UMBC with Maine, Vermont, NJIT and Hartford rounding out the field.

UMBC will now head to the IC4A Championships next weekend, May 13-15.
