Arnold Wins 500m, Retrievers Finish Sixth at America East Championships

UMBC men’s track and field finished in sixth place at the 2022 America East Championships on Saturday. Michael Arnold was the lone Retriever to win gold on day two, with several Retrievers placing in the top ten of their respective events.

BOSTON– UMBC men's track and field finished in sixth place at the 2022 America East Championships on Saturday. Michael Arnold was the lone Retriever to win gold on day two, with several Retrievers placing in the top ten of their respective events.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Arnold earned gold and all-conference honors in the 500m, finishing in 1:04.66. Nicolas Alphonse also finished in the top eight in the event, placing eighth in a time of 1:07.47.
Shavar Staats took third in the 60m dash finals in 6.91. Shamar Barnes had a strong showing in the 200m finals taking fifth in a time of 21.74.
Taheer Pierce and Cameron Hindle finished in the top ten of their respective events, with Pierce finishing eighth in the 400m (50.21) and Hindle taking ninth in the 3,000m (8:20.95).
A trio of Retrievers went four-ten-eleven in the mile. Sam Brosh took fourth in 4:09.84 with Zachary Taylor finishing tenth (4:19.06), and Mack McKeever taking eleventh (4:20.77).
The 4x800m relay team of Tyler Dregely, Joel Simpson, Lamine Fofana, Mulisa Reggasa took third in a time of 7:46.10.
In the field, Ibrahim Khairat led the way with a fifth place finish in the triple jump at 14.71m.

UMass Lowell won the team title, just ahead of UAlbany and Binghamton in second and third. Maine and New Hampshire were just ahead of UMBC, with Vermont, NJIT and Hartford rounding out the field.
