Men’s Track and Field Wins Four Events at Penn State Tune Up

UMBC men’s track and field had a stellar day in State College with the Retrievers winning four different events. UMBC also dominated the 200m dash, placing seven Retrievers in the top ten.

State College, Pa.-- UMBC men's track and field had a stellar day in State College with the Retrievers winning four different events. UMBC also dominated the 200m dash, placing seven Retrievers in the top ten. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Shamar Barnes led seven Retrievers in the top ten of the 200m dash, taking first in a time of 21.96. Jaeden Burke and Taheer Pierce were just behind him in second and third in times of 21.98 and 22.19.
  • Burke also turned in a second place finish in the 60m dash in 6.99, finishing just behind Shavar Staats in first in 6.93.
  • Cameron Hindle also earned a first place finish on Friday, taking gold in the mile in 4:11.83. Sam Brosh and Mack McKeever also finished in the top ten in the event in second (4:12.90) and eighth (4:22.31).
  • Daron Taylor, Brendan Cave, and Will Sackowicz went three-four-five in the unseeded 3,000m with times of 8:50.86, 9:04.03, and 9:10.44 respectively. 
  • Other top individual finishers included Tyler Dregely in the 600m (2nd, 1:21.79), Mulisa Reggasa in the 800m (5th, 1:55.61) and Joel Simpson in the 800m (6th, 1:56.39).
  • The 4x400m relay team of Dregely, Levi Bryant, Lamine Fofana, and Reggasa took first, crossing the tape in a time of 3:29.77.
  • In the field, Ibrahim Khairat led the charge with a third place finish in the long jump at 6.56m.
  • Toren Burr finished with a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.74m.
  • Thomas Hamby had a pair of top finishes, taking ninth in the weight throw (13.65m) and 12th in the shot put (12.33m).

The Retrievers will now head to Boston for the 2022 America East Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26.
