BALTIMORE – UMBC women's lacrosse
hosts New Hampshire on Saturday, April 27 as part of a Retriever
lacrosse doubleheader. Women's lacrosse opens up the afternoon as
it looks to clinch its fourth-straight playoff berth on Senior Day
at the UMBC Stadium. First draw is set for noon, followed by men's
lacrosse playing host to Binghamton at 3:30 p.m.
With one week left in the regular season, two of the America
East's four playoff spots have been decided. UMBC, New Hampshire
and Vermont all head into their regular-season finales with 2-3
marks in conference play. The winner of Saturday's contest between
the Retrievers and Wildcats will guarantee itself a playoff
spot.
UMBC (8-7, 2-3 AEC) has dropped its last four contests,
including an 8-7 loss at Vermont last Saturday. Senior
netminder Kendall Mason (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring
Harbor) matched a career-high with 11 stops in the contest,
including seven saves in the second half. The senior eclipsed the
100-save mark for the first time in her career, with 104 stops on
the year.
Sophomore attacker Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston)
finished with a team-best four points, two goals and two assists,
against the Catamounts and enters Saturday one helper shy of
entering into the Retrievers' top-10 single-season assists
list.
Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Semones (Westminster,
Md./Westminster/Penn State) paces the offense with 32 goals and 44
points. Semones' 44 draw controls is good for sixth on UMBC's
single-season record list. Senior defender Jamie
Fahey (Baldwin, Md./Loch Raven) ranks second on the team in
caused turnovers (11) and third on the squad in ground balls (21)
and draw controls (26).
New Hampshire (5-10, 2-3 AEC) has fallen in three of its last
four contests, including a pair of America East matchups. The
Wildcats most recently fell, 16-9, to Fairfield on Saturday
afternoon. UNH had four players record three points apiece in the
losing effort.
Senior attacker Jenny Simpson paces the Wildcats in scoring with
46 points on the season and is one of three UNH players with
20-plus goals on the year, with a team-best 41 goals. Freshman
attacker Laura McHoul is the only member of New Hampshire with
double-digit goals and assists, dishing out a team-best 30 helpers,
to go along with 14 goals in her rookie campaign.
Goalkeepers Kathleen O'Keefe and Taylor Hurwitz have combined
for a .435 save percentage on the season. O'Keefe has seen the
majority of action in net on the season and is recording 8.27 saves
per contest.
