Women's Lacrosse Looks to Rebound Against Colgate on Saturday

BALTIMORE – UMBC women's lacrosse looks to rebound from its first loss of the season when it travels to Colgate on Saturday, March 2. Game time is set for noon at Tyler's Field.

The Retrievers (2-1) opened the season 2-0 for just the second time in the last 15 years, but were handed their first loss of the season, 11-8, on Wednesday, Feb. 27 to No. 16 Towson. Junior midfielder Kristen Bilney (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) piloted the Retrievers with three goals against the Tigers, while junior midfielder Shannon Harkey (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and freshman Sam Nolan (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored two goals apiece.  

Senior midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees), the reigning America East Offensive Player of the Week, leads the squad with 10 points on the season – eight goals and two assists. Bilney has added seven goals and two assists. Newcomer Alyssa Semones (Westminster, Md./Westminster/Penn State) leads the team in draw controls with 10 on the year and has chipped in four goals.

Senior netminder Kendall Mason (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), this week's America East Defensive Player of the Week, has registered 20 saves and has notched a .417 save percentage.

Colgate (2-1) won its first two contests of the season before dropping its latest contest, 13-11, to Hofstra. The Raiders received goals from seven different players in the contest, including three goals apiece from Lauren Gorajek and Alison Flood.

Flood leads the team with 10 goals and nine draw controls on the season, while Kate Sheridan has a team-best 13 points on 11 assists and two scores. Amanda O'Sullivan has nine goals on 11 shots.    

Goalkeeper Jennie Berglin has played every minute in net for the Raiders and has tallied 25 saves in three contests.
