BEIJING, China—Former UMBC track and field athlete Cleopatra Borel-Brown is set to represent the island country of Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, Aug. 17 in the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing, China. Borel-Brown will begin her quest for an Olympic medal in the shot put at 9:10 a.m. Beijing time on Sunday, 9:10 p.m. eastern time on Saturday. With an appearance at the 2008 Games, Borel-Brown will become the first athlete from UMBC to complete in two Olympics.

PRINCETON, N.J.—The women’s 4 x 100-meter relay of junior Tierra Gregory (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown), and sophomores Tawana Wilson (Yorktown, Va./Tabb), Jennifer Kalkstein (New Kensington, Pa./Burrell/St. Francis (Pa.)) and Britney Foreman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) set a new school record as the UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams finished competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. on Sunday.

ORONO, Maine—Senior Ashley Fauntleroy (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) was named the America East Outdoor Championship Most Outstanding Field Performer for the second straight year as the UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively at the conference championship meet in Orono, Maine last weekend.

6/10/2008 Cavell Johnson Earns 2008 Male America East Conference Sportmanship Award CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- The America East Conference named UMBC men's basketball player Cavell Johnson (Fort Washington, Md.) and Hartford track & field athlete Latasha Jarrett (Ellington, Conn.) its 2008 Male and Female Sportsmanship Award winners on Monday, June 9. Johnson and Jarrett are now automatically eligible for the NCAA Male and Female Sportsmanship Awards to be determined by the NCAA Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct in July.
To be nominated, an individual or team must have demonstrated consistently the values of caring, fairness, civility, honesty, integrity and responsibility in his or her daily participation in intercollegiate athletics.
