Boston, Mass.—UMBC baseball sophomore Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) was named America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Christian led the Retrievers in a 6-0 win against Gardner-Webb on Sunday.
The Virginia native helped the Retrievers to their first win of the season, throwing 7.2 innings of shutout ball, taking a perfect game into the sixth. His perfect game was broken with a one out single in the inning.
He fanned a career-best 12 batters, surrendering just two hits with no walks in the win.
The Retrievers are back on the diamond today, Tuesday March 7 with a 2:30 p.m. contest at Delaware. UMBC will make their home debut tomorrow, Wednesday March 8 at 3 p.m. against Towson.
